It will take over the space formerly occupied by Sam’s Fried Chicken and Donuts
After rumors swirled for weeks that iconic Houston pastry purveyor Common Bond would debut yet another location in the Heights, the growing bakery chain has announced plans for a new drive-thru outpost.
The new spot, dubbed Common Bond on the Go, is set to take over the space formerly occupied by Sam’s Fried Chicken and Donuts (and before that, Lee’s Fried Chicken and Donuts) at 601 Heights Boulevard. In addition to the drive-thru, the space will also have seating inside, along with an expanded patio perfect for lounging with a croissant and cup of coffee once the coronavirus pandemic is over.
This will be the first Common Bond on the Go, but it probably won’t be the last in Houston. “Eventually our goal is to have ‘On-the-Go’s’ all around the city,” Common Bond president Chris Fannin said in a statement. “It’s a concept of ultimate convenience, while also maintaining superb quality. Customers will be able to pick up their coffee and croissant on the way to work, and a bottle of wine and baguette for dinner on the way home.”
Common Bond has been in expansion mode over the past couple of years, debuting its third Houston location in the Heights back in December 2019. There’s also a location in the works for Downtown food hall Understory, among other expansion plans — last year, the company announced plans for statewide growth, including forthcoming locations in Dallas-Fort Worth.
Common Bond on the Go is expected to make its debut on May 18.
