The chef just debuted “take and bake” meals at HEB

With the city’s dining rooms closed and Houston restaurants trying to figure out how to survive during these tough times, chef Chris Shepherd has officially made it easier to find some of his most iconic dishes.

The chef announced on Thursday that his brand new, refrigerated “take and bake” meals are now on the shelves at Houston HEB stores, which means that Houstonians will be able to eat dishes like Korean braised beef and dumplings, tater tot casserole made with bacon sausage, and a version of Shepherd’s famed “Lamburger Helper” that’s made with Texas wagyu beef. King Ranch chicken casserole and mac and cheese with fried chicken tenders are also options.

“We hope you enjoy these, and a huge thank you goes out to the great folks at HEB, not just for being there for Houston, but supporting small independent restaurants like us,” Shepherd wrote on Instagram. “It means the world that they have made a commitment to helping us in our time of crisis as well.”

Other Houston restaurants are getting in on the grocery game, too. According to the Houston Chronicle, Bravery Chef Hall’s Cherry Block Craft Butcher and Kitchen will introduce prepared meals in HEB stores, including smoked ham hock gumbo and red beans and rice. Brennan’s of Houston will also bring its iconic turtle soup to grocery store shelves.

Underbelly Hospitality’s takeaway dishes are priced at $12, scope out a list of the Houston-area HEB locations that have Shepherd’s meals in stock below.
